Drakondale Girls Choir School first full length concert at the school was a triumph and will forever be a proud defining moment in our school’s history. After adding in a second show to accommodate brisk demand for tickets, we ended up with both shows completely sold out, and audience members sitting outside, watching through the windows.
It was a dream-come-true moment for founding members John Tungay & Wendy Clarke, as well as for conductor Judith Hawthorn. After just two months of preparation, the girls gave a memorable performance that blew the audience away. The concert was a beautiful mix of old and new, classical, modern and showbiz, together with a beautiful new arrangement of traditional Zulu song, Siyahamba that moved many to tears.
The Drakondale Girls are an incredible bunch of young ladies who are enthusiastic, delightfully happy and talented. Shirley Bradshaw, Principal, says “The bar has been set very high for any future pupils. They will have a lot to live up to. Not just musically, but academically”.
